A Climate of Conformity

Reluctant to break with the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the DNC has continued within that legacy throughout this past year. Publishing such a report might have shown that party leaders are interested to encourage honest conversation about the missteps that enabled the former president to return to the White House. Instead, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there's nothing to be learned following the electoral catastrophe of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from our fundamental goal," a rationale reportedly given for withholding the report.

Key Issues an Analysis Would Have Addressed

A genuine analysis of substance would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. Among them are:

• Voter Disenchantment: The loss among a significant portion of the electorate who supported the Democratic ticket during the previous election became a critical factor during the tight recent race.
• The Decision to Run: The determined decision of a party leader to seek re-election, alongside a very late withdrawal, has been criticized as robbing Democratic voters of a genuine choice.
• Failing Everyday Americans: While facing economic anxiety, the electoral effort reportedly accommodating elite contributors without successfully attempting to confront the role of profit-seeking.

A History of Evasion

This refusal aligns with a longstanding habit of sidestepping uncomfortable facts. This mirrors an episode in which nearly all Democratic officeholder in Congress supported a sitting president's determination to running for re-election until a poor televised debate led to a reversal.

At the same time, large majorities of Democratic voters had been continually telling researchers of their opposition to that candidate to be the nominee.
