Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five TDs in the present year
The New England Patriots equaled their longest winning run from the Tom Brady era as they defeated division rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the Patriots claimed an eight-game winning streak for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The win extends the New England's lead at the summit of the division as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after slipping to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had taken the lead at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields running in a five-yard touchdown to conclude the New York's first possession
But the New England responded in the second period as the rookie rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third period to reduce the lead for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the triumph
